Happy Birthday BILLY & KLIPPAN!

What was a cake with lots and lots of cupcakes doing in IKEA on 10 October 2009?


2 of IKEA's best loved products have turned 30 this year and it was celebrated in a fun way last Saturday!
BILLY is a bookcase series that I myself love a lot and have bought quite a number over the years.
KLIPPAN is a sofa that you can personalise with many choices of covers.


Here's the 2 tier birthday cake decorated with handmade BILLY bookcase flanked by 2 KLIPPANs in the limited edition designs. For more info about these limited edition products, click here.




I used pretty flowers in a light colours so as to not overpower the main stars of the cake. It's white orchids and sweet pea made from gumpaste.


Cupcakes surrounding the cake... how many were there?


1000 cupcakes! All with various designs of BILLY, KLIPPAN and "30".

Pink & Blue


Keeping it simple without too much buttercream or fondant decoration, it's blue flowers with pink highlights for my grandma's birthday.



Ben 10 cupcakes


One of my most requested cupcake designs has the omnitrix design piped using buttercream and the Ben10 logo which is a frosting sheet.
Cupcakes are baked in souffle cups which makes it easier to handle (as the cups do not separate from the cake) and are more moist.

Hello Kitty joins...


books, rainbow, crown, tiara and more - all chosen by the birthday girl for her cupcakes!

All decorations made from fondant and resting on top of fondant covered cupcakes.


An extra 2 cupcakes were made as the guest list grew - elmo and winnie the pooh.

A wedding gift


A nice way to say congratulations on your wedding! My customer got this as a gift for the newly weds.

... it's up to your imagination but she's certainly no bimbo and holds her own with a gun as well!

Hantaran in pink


Similiar to an earlier hantaran cake, I gave it a different finish with...


... brush embroidery design on the sides of the cake to resemble puffy white clouds.
Cake is covered with fondant and surrounded with 12 cupcakes.


Pretty pink roses and fabric butterflies make this an elegant cake!

Miley Cyrus, star of Hannah Montana is Arysha's idol.


Printed in edible frosting sheet, you can have your picture and eat it too!

It's your 1st Birthday!


Luiz turns 1 with a bright colourful cake! Number "1" is made of cake. Teddy bear is a soft toy that the little boy can play with after the cake is enjoyed. Stars are made from fondant so is edible.

Ben 10 without eggs and dairy!


Had to be super careful with this order and make sure that I did not get any eggs or dairy into any part of the cake as the little boy is allergic to them. Cake is a moist chocolate one which is a little more dense than the normal buttercake since it does not have eggs. Since Jared has been having jelly birthday cakes in the past, I wanted to make sure his first cake was special so was extra careful in making and decorating it. Was very happy to hear that he liked it!

Ice Cream Cake

An ice cream cake made with vanilla and chocolate ice cream. Decorated with imported chocolate.

When choosing ice-cream, I use imported ice cream from Australia, New Zealand or US for a smoother, richer, creamier taste.

Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri

Elegant Blue




A 1kg cake is covered in fondant and decorated with an edible frosting sheet with a rich blue design for Hari Raya.


Decorated with Cattleya orchids made from gumpaste - edible but very hard!



Serene Yellow & Green


A bouquet style arrangement resting on top of gathered "fabric".


"Fabric" is in fondant so is totally edible.

Cattleya is also the star here but this time with a bunch of friends.

A pink wedding

The blushing bride all decked out with pearls and pink flowers next to her dashing groom with a BIG grin on his face.


A 3kg cake with columns using pretty wine glasses. The bottom tier is surrounded by 19 cupcakes.


Decorated with pink roses and pink sprinkles.

Tiramisu

Half size tiramisu with white & dark chocolate decoration - a simple elegant touch for an adult celebration.

Hello Kitty

As the birthday gal likes pink, I've not only made the bow pink but made the little kitty's nose pink as well!


Added a pink star border for added highlight.

A special date - 09.09.09

A 4kg cake in 2 tiers covered with fondant and decorated with unique fondant flowers.


For a special mother turning 63 - the birthday message is spelt out on flowers "shooting" from the top of the cake!


The back of the "shooting" flowers have added decoration - a little something extra for the birthday lady to enjoy as she is serenaded with her birthday song.


A special date deserves a special touch - designed to match the flowers decoration.

Butterflies and flowers

25 kiddy cupcakes baked in souffle cups so I could have a flat surface for a neater finish to decorate the butterflies and flowers.

Picture below shows cupcakes baked in the normal liner. The edge of the cake still be seen after decorating.

Ben 10 - Jetray


A little boy turns eight with a birthday message on a billboard...


... on top of a building! Flying across the building is his favourite alien character from the very popular Ben 10 Alien Force cartoon.


The back of the cake is also decorated with Ben 10 with another picture of Jetray on the back of the billboard.



Lightning McQueen


A 1kg cake is sculpted and covered with fondant to transform into this little red car.


Vrooooommmm!

Butterfly... oh Butterfly...


A happy little butterfly...


...dressed in pastel pink and purple! Covered with fondant then painted so that the edges of the wings are a darker shade of pink


I had fun doing this cake and making the little rope border around the cake!

One of my most popular designs! This is a 1kg cake covered in fondant.

A little girl turns 1 with her favourite toys - all edible! Made of fondant, these decorations do not do well refrigerated...
but her mother wanted a chilled cake (Strawberry Mascarpone) so...
she was game enough to put on the decoration herself after taking the cake out of the fridge! Nice to have customers like these!



Mickey Mouse


After doing 2 Minnie Mouse cakes, I am able to do Mickey without referring to the picture - hooray!



Princess Barbie

MINI turns 50!

I seem to be using this diamond layout more nowadays so that I can fit the person's name nicely on the cupcakes.
